Advice and information

BHTA

The BHTA is the trade body for suppliers of healthcare products and services, including mobility scooters. Their members must abide by a Code of Practice, so we recommend that you go to retailers that are BHTA members. The BHTA can direct you to local retailers and handle complaints about their members. They also publish two guides:

Disabled Living Foundation

Provide advice and information on equipment with an online database of products and retailers and a helpline.

Disability Rights UK

Advice and information is available on a wide range of disability-related topics. They have also produced a guide to getting a powered wheelchair or scooter called Get mobile.

Motability

Motability is a scheme that lets you lease a mobility scooter, powered wheelchair or car using your benefits – see our finance section for more. They also run Motability One Big Day events for prospective users, where you can see and try out equipment.
