Community alarm test reports

Which alarm?

When we first produced this guide in 2003, we carried out detailed tests on a range of the alarms on the market at the time. The manufacturers provided us with technical details of their products, and we carried out usability assessments with experts from the Royal National Institute for Deaf People (now Action on Hearing Loss).

However, many of the alarms we tested have now been discontinued. The test results for those still on the market are given below - but be aware that there are many newer models that we have not tested.

Our Things to consider page explains what we took into account when assessing the alarms. If you're thinking about getting an alarm, you should consider these areas too. We also have a handy checklist of questions for you to print out and use.

All alarms will have some good and some less good features - you'll need to think about which ones suit your needs and abilities.
